Overview
Threshold Labs is a small, independent exercise science effort. The work sits between lab physiology and usable training — translating mechanisms like oxygen delivery, buffering, and autonomic balance into protocols an athlete or coach can actually run.
The current thread is Oxygen Adaptive Training: controlled, intermittent exposure that nudges the oxygen cascade, then measures whether the adaptation shows up as improved time-to-exhaustion, faster recovery, or better repeatability.
What OAT is (and isn't)
OAT is not altitude camp and not breath-hold training for its own sake. It is a short, repeatable session that varies inspired oxygen within a narrow, monitored band and pairs it with light-to-moderate work. The point is to create a measurable adaptive signal without pushing into risky desaturation.
Each session is logged: SpO₂, pulse, work, and a short subjective battery. The log is the product — over weeks it reveals dose-response and individual differences that a single study average hides.
System — measurement matters
Because the stimulus is small, the measurement has to be tight. The bench setup is intentionally simple — off-the-shelf pulse oximetry, a controlled gas blend or rebreathing element, and a repeatable work bout — so results don't depend on exotic hardware.
